Welcome to my family blog. I have been married to Mike for over half of my life. I love my Savior, Jesus. I am a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom to six terrific, interesting children. My 3 oldest were born to me in my younger years, while my 3 youngest were given to me by God in my older years. I am very blessed. ~Cheri

Hair Color

Whenever I thought about Chinese people, I always thought of their straight, very black hair. My girls must be the exception to that thought.

First of all, Eva's and Joy's hair have a brown, almost reddish color to it. When Eva first came home, she did not have any hair, so I've nothing to compare it to. Joy had black hair when we first met her. Now they both have a lighter color to it.

Ivy's Hair
Ivy's hair is so thick and wavy.  She has curls around her face.  The hairs on her head are so think I could floss with them.  Not that I'd want to...but if I was in a bind...maybe.  Anyway, I've noticed some lightening on Ivy's hair when she is in the sunlight.  Is it possible that my well water is doing this?  If so, is there something I could buy to prevent or repair it?  Regardless, their hair is beautiful, highlights or no highlights.

I too thought that my children's hair would be black. I have a girl from Northern China (Datong)
who has lovely dark brown hair with reddish lights. My son is from Southern China (Kunming) and his hair is lighter than both hers and mine.

Tyson's hair is also a dark brown, and I was surprised. I too thought it would be black. Also, because Ty's hair is short, it is course, spiky, and it just hurts if he is on my lap and my face brushes on his face! OUCH! LOL

My kids' hair got much darker after I switched off the baby shampoo.

I have no advice on hair color but I must say your flossing comment is cracking me up....I almost spit my coffee out all over my computer screen from laughing so hard....thanks for that! :)

It could be highlights from more time in the sun. My older daughter's hair is red. It gets more blonde in the summer when we are outside. During the winter, it deepens in color again.

It looks like all three of your girls do have brown hair rather than black, and I don't think that's uncommon for Asian kids. Of course, my daughter's hair is platinum, so I have nothing to compare to!
