Welcome to my family blog. I have been married to Mike for over half of my life. I love my Savior, Jesus. I am a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom to six terrific, interesting children. My 3 oldest were born to me in my younger years, while my 3 youngest were given to me by God in my older years. I am very blessed. ~Cheri

Another Good Day

Yes, it does keep getting better.  Ivy is such a joy to me.  Today started out great, but too early at 6:30 am.  Rather, 3:00 am for me.  I asked to switch rooms because there seems to be trucks always unloading/loading things between 2:30 and 6:00 am.  Now our room faces no street.  I hope for better sleep tonight.

Ivy, watching a movie while waiting for Mom to get dressed.

We met our guide at 9:30 to go to the medical office.  I had already told her we had to go to the doctor, then Daniel told her about the shots.  She just stared off and then the tears started.  She was so quiet about it all. (Ivy weighed in a whopping 41 pounds!)  Once we entered the vaccination area, the tears started again.  Before that, she was having a good time going room to room, checking hearing, eyesight and such.  Ivy needed only 4 shots,  plus oral polio and TB test.  I held her closely, and felt her flinch with each shot they gave her.  I felt so badly for her.  But, afterward, she was just fine and has been the rest of the day.

Looking quite stylish on the way to the doctor.

Taking pictures of the teddy bears on the floor at the medical exam.

Today was rainy, so we just piddled around the island and sat in the room way too long watching that never-ending super-hero TV show.  We did the usual coloring and playing, but I was so sleepy.  We met another family for dinner and had pizza at the Italian place.  Yang Yi is from the same orphanage as Ivy Xue, but just a bit younger.  They smiled when they saw each other, but Ivy didn't talk to her at all.  Ivy is extremely shy.  I noticed she is more shy around men.  At the medical office, they had to force her to speak (doctor was male) to make sure she could.  When we are around other people, Ivy just smiles, but does not talk.  She is starting to say "OK" when I tell her to do things.  She calls my name when she is finished in the tub.  Other than that, I have to ask her to speak to me.  She read me a story from her book, and I heard her singing a song.  So, now I have 2 non-talkers in the family.  Maybe she and Jack should share a room?

Lacing Cards
Ivy put this sticker on me!

*I notice Ivy's grip on my hand is tighter than it was yesterday.
*She giggles whenever I roll down the top of her pants.  She's very ticklish.
*Some man off the street walked up to her and gave her a box of colorful popcorn.  I didn't know what to do.  So, she ate it and she's still alive.
*When Ivy rinses her mouth after brushing her teeth, she shakes her head back and forth to swish the water around.  It is very funny.
*Ivy's medical was wrong.  Her front gums are affected by her cleft.  Her front tooth is in sideways.  Poor thing.  No apples for her.  No wonder she wanted me to cut the corn off the cob.
*Ivy is a gigglebox tonight.

Besides my story here in China, Mike is back home with his own stories to tell.  Apparently, Eva is going to be a beautician one day.  She's already getting her practice in on the left side of her head.  Mike said he caught Joy walking down the hall with a handful of hair that Eva had cut off.  So, it took Eva 4 years to grow the hair she has and only minutes to lose it.  Eva also cut some off Joy, but not as badly.  Eva also went into the pantry to help herself, cutting open bags of cereal and crackers.  My, she's become quite independent since I've been away!

I love the picture of Ivy relaxed on the bed. What a blessing! She is doing so well!!!! Praises.

So sorry for your shots brave girl!

Ivy is a true blessing. She's such a sweet and lovely girl. Enjoy this mom time with her. Although I missed my children when we traveled, I realized how valuable that time getting to know my new little one was.

The Landes Family

Sounds like things are moving along. Here we are bracing for another winter storm. I believe Ivy gets more beautiful everytime I log on. Don't worry about the hair. Miss Talicee did it too. We are just now getting it even with the rest of her hair. Girls seem to love scissors. You have heard, when the cat is away, the mice will play. Sounds like that is what is happening. Hugs and kisses. Can't wait to meet Miss Ivy.

Oh how I laughed about the popcorn!! I would have wondered exactly the same thing!!! I love your little descriptions of her... she just gets more and more adorable every day! Oh whatever will she think to all her siblings? I am sure you have wondered that yourself many times a day! Perhaps she will want a hair cut like Eva!! Can you believe that? Well I am sure you can't!! How does the saying go.... when the cats' away the mice will play......

Wish your husband was keeping a blog of these happening at home for us all to check!! How funny!

You will probably come home so appreciated! We caught Ty with scissors yesterday trying to cut Kacie's pants.

Anyway, Ivy is amazing. I cannot remember if your other girls are cleft affected or not, but if not, know that there is so much support here. Have you joined the yahoo cleft group? If not, let me know and I'll get you the group name. Ty's cleft is complete, so all is affected. But right now, other than speech, the cleft is a non-issue.

I can't wait to see Ivy with your family at home!

I love following your journey and I can't wait to be in your shoes this fall. Sounds like you are having the easiest experience of all the RQers that are adopting 6 or 7 year olds. Reading these blogs are great preparation!

Ivy is adorable and seems to have such a sweet little spirit. She might suprise you and really open up soon, and you will wonder what happened to that quiet little one.

Oh that sounds like something my littles would do while I'm away. While we were away getting Benjamin, my mom took Alaina to her hair dresser and gave her bangs...hair that took years to grow out. Alaina's bangs finally grew out. It will grow...eventually :)
I love Ivy! I just keep looking at her pictures. She's so pretty and sounds like such a sweet girl. Poor girl..all those shots. Just crazy to make a child get that many shots at once. Bless her heart.
So happy she is happy. I'm always looking forward to the next post. :)

Melanie

Ivy's looking so much happier. That must be a relief to you.
I'm glad she did so well getting her shots.

I remember when Katie cut our cat's whiskers. Of all the crazy things she used to do, I'm surprised she never cut her hair.

Poor Mike! I'm sure he's looking forward to you coming home. He certainly has his hands full.:)

It's supposed to snow again tomorrow, so maybe he can send them out to play.

Mommy

I LOL at the popcorn comment. Spoken like a true mom of many. ;-) I am so happy for you that things seem to be going better. As for Eva and Joy--it's not funny now but someday it will be a great "when my Mom was in China meeting Ivy, do you know what I did to my sister?" LOL! See you tomorrow!

Misty
