Welcome to my family blog. I have been married to Mike for over half of my life. I love my Savior, Jesus. I am a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom to six terrific, interesting children. My 3 oldest were born to me in my younger years, while my 3 youngest were given to me by God in my older years. I am very blessed. ~Cheri

The Purge

Sometimes my kiddos need purging.  Is it right to purge our kids?  Once a week, I have to "purge" Eva and Joy.  I should purge Ivy and Jack, but they are getting a bit too old.  When my kids get out of the shower and they still have dirty faces and stinky hair, it is time for a purge.  Last week after spending 20 minutes in the shower with Eva, Joy came out with half of her hair wet.  The other half still had a braid in and it was dry.  I asked Joy if she washed her hair.  She replied, "Yes!"  Thus, the weekly purge of my stinky younger kids.

Their bedrooms are no different.  I dread going into the girls' room.  Yesterday, I ventured in to vacuum.  It wasn't pretty.

What is so enticing about putting dirty hands on windows?  Or computer screens?

Don't ask.

Don't ask, again.  And don't report me.

Notice the black spot on top of the bulb?  Ivy decided to put a blanket over the lamp to make the room darker.  We almost had a house fire.  Then, she was playing Hide-and-Seek in the dark and just knocked it off and broke it.

Broken watch in a glass of seashells.  Why?

Bedtime fun, I guess.  There are 4 various light sources.  Can you spot them all?

Sorry for the glare from the window.

Ivy actually put water in the jar for the fake flowers.  Months ago.  Nasty.

After the purge.  The whole time I vacuumed it sounded like a machine shop.  Clink, clank, bing.  The girls are really testing my Oreck vacuum.  So much for a Pottery Barn room.  In my dreams.

I know it isn't funny to a Mom and I can totally relate, but the hair washing story about the hair still in a braid and dry made me laugh! And I wish I could find the secret to keeping kids' rooms looking great! But they grow up so fast and you actually miss the mess at times!

Love it. so familiar...sigh****

I so need to do this. It's been awhile. I just don't have the energy. I just keep telling her to clean her room and then I regret it. I have a knick knack hoarder. Why does every happy meal toy need to be on display?

a future and a hope

So very familiar here, too........only more with my boys when they were younger. Many times I just removed things and they were none the wiser. But yes, you just get to a point where you can't take it any more and you want it to look more austere - just like a prison cell! My girls used to play "let's clean our room and see who is the neatest". Loved that. They must take after my side of the family........

Yes! My kids have friends who keep their rooms perfectly. Moms with "perfect" houses. Mine are creative, and I get that. I love that. But Ew.Ew. Ew.

The Bunny once decorated her nightlight with necklaces. Pretty, right? One slipped from the plastic and got between the plug and the wall, down on the metal prongs that were plugged in. Sparks apparently shot up like fireworks and the circuit breaker did its job, thank God. Glad you didn't have a fire this week!

Vicky

Thank you for sharing! It makes me feel so much better. We are still at the stage were everything goes into a bag and is kept for "safe" keeping! I love the "Barbie"! Journey's lamp was broke fairly early on...it looks good as long as you don't move or try to turn it on!

As soon as school is out....we are purging the whole house. We need to have a clean sweep here...I am so weary of the mess. It gets 'straight' and in just a few minutes its back again. How do people have those spotless magazine-shoot ready homes? I hear ya...in my dreams. LOL

What a fun tour! I loved all of their light sources. Clever!
