Welcome to my family blog. I have been married to Mike for over half of my life. I love my Savior, Jesus. I am a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom to six terrific, interesting children. My 3 oldest were born to me in my younger years, while my 3 youngest were given to me by God in my older years. I am very blessed. ~Cheri

The Doctor Appointment

A few posts back, I shared my concerns about Joy's hand.  I'm so thankful for all the informative comments and emails I received regarding Poland's Syndrome.  I did some research and this is a condition that my daughter does have.  Her doctor confirmed it yesterday.  She has a minor form of it and seems to only be missing her pectoral muscle on her left side.  I remember the doctor checking for it when she first came home.  She was only about 15 pounds and very weak and floppy, so it was hard to tell.  As her strength grew over the last few years, it became more obvious that something was "missing".

So, my sweet, hot-tempered girl is finally diagnosed.  Her hand issue is not from amniotic banding, as originally suspected.  I'm sure Poland's Syndrome is not so easily diagnosed in tiny girls at an early age.  As for her medical records, it just mentioned hand deformity.  Am I upset?  Absolutely not.  I love my little firecracker.  (I've forgotten what she was so mad about on this particular day.  It could have been that I made her eat apples and a pbj sandwich when she wanted something else.)

seriously love this pic of Joy - we see that face from Piper a lot too. Glad you got some answers!

I saw the beautiful picture of your daughter's hands on Stephanie's blog Ni Hao Y'all. It made me smile, as those are the same hand's of my little one. Like your daughter, my little gal has Poland's Syndrome. The diagnosis was not made until several months after we were home from China. My daughter, age 3, is also a little "firecracker.". So many similarities... :)

I just found your blog through RQ and can relate so much. :) We have 7 children, 2 of which are adopted, we're 100% nonstop soccer, and live in the mountains of Virginia. :) We are working on our LOI to adopt a 5yr old little girl from China right now which is of course why I was reading the RQ site. :) It was great to find your blog. You have such a beautiful family!

I am glad you got a firm diagnosis. Her picture is hilarious. She definately was not impressed! My juicer I wrote you about was backordered and in that time my 7 year old became ill and was hospitalized and diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. That put us on a whole new journey of insulin injections and carbohydrate counting and I decided it was not the time for the juicer. I have been deep into feeding her on time 3 meals and 3 snacks a day on the diabetic diet. Maybe sometime down the road for the juicer!

Long time no blogging *sigh* - but I just wanted to check on your family and Miss Ivy :-). And your post had me thinking.... and wondering if this syndrome is what Nora has. I'll have to ask her doctor, if she ever gets to see her - this kiddo is never sick!
Hugs, Barb
